Md Saiful Islam, Ph.D. Student - Temple University

Md Saiful Islam is a PhD student in Environmental Engineering at Temple University, where his research focuses on the fate, transport, interaction mechanisms, and sustainable remediation of contaminants of emerging concern. His work integrates field investigations, laboratory experiments, and the development of advanced treatment technologies such as foam fractionation and adsorption modeling to support sustainable water treatment solutions. He has over 10 years of professional experience in leadership roles within environmental consulting and academia. He has successfully led teams on impact assessments, regulatory compliance, and wastewater treatment projects. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at both national and regional conferences.

His commitment to research, academic excellence, and his potential as a future leader in the water sector have been recognized through multiple awards in 2025, notably David A. Long Award from the Pennsylvania Section of the American Water Works Association (PA-AWWA), Charles “Chick” Roberts Scholarship Award from the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and GRASP Sustainability Award from Temple University. Saiful was also involved as Entrepreneur Lead (EL) in the NSF I Corps Hub Northeast Region program. As a Student Board Member on the HDC SETAC Board of Directors, he hopes to use his diverse academic, research, and leadership skills to enhance student involvement, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to a more inclusive and engaged scientific community.
