Chitra Prabhu - HDR
Chitra is a Professional Associate with HDR Inc. with over 19 years of experience focusing on contaminated sediment site investigations and remediation projects for regulatory agencies, municipalities, and private clients. She has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in geoscience. Her focus for many years has been on remediating riverine and estuarine Superfund sites and other waterbodies. Her experience includes environmental data analysis, development of conceptual site models, fingerprinting sources of pollutants, using innovative techniques to delineate presence of non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) in sediments, assessing NAPL migration pathways, and feasibility studies. A few projects she has worked on include the Lower Passaic River, Berry’s Creek, Hudson River PCB Site, and Newark Bay. She currently serves as the Project Manager for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) for the Newtown Creek and Gowanus Canal Superfund Sites. She also supports the Region 1 USEPA in the data collection and design aspects of the pre-design investigation for two reaches of the Housatonic River and its vernal pools, including the development of a treatability study for selecting capping amendments for cap design. She has presented her work at conferences such as SETAC North America, Battelle International Sediment Conference, and others
